What you'll accomplish
Your team's QC checklist is only useful if someone actually applies all of it, every time, instead of the three or four items that come to mind first. A Gem is a custom version of Gemini that holds your checklist and common finding categories as standing context, so pasting in a script or a piece of output gets you a consistent first pass before your formal human QC review starts. It flags candidates for a human to check. It does not replace the reviewer.
What you'll need
Before building anything, get your team's QC checklist into a single document if it is not already.
What you should see: A document you could hand to a new team member and have them understand what "QC" means at your organization, beyond a single word.
What you should see: A setup screen asking for a name and a set of instructions for your new Gem, similar in structure to setting up a saved prompt. Troubleshooting: If Gem creation is not available on your account, confirm your Gemini access level. The feature has rolled out unevenly across free, paid, and workspace accounts.
Paste your checklist and finding categories directly into the Gem's instructions field.
You are a QC checklist assistant for a statistical programming team. When I paste in a script or output, review it against this checklist: [paste your checklist categories and descriptions here]. Flag each issue you find with the specific line or section it relates to, and the checklist category it falls under. Do not rewrite the code. Do not confirm the code is correct, only that it passed or failed each checklist item you can evaluate from what I pasted. If you cannot evaluate an item from what was pasted, say so rather than guessing.
What you should see: Your new Gem appears in a list of custom Gems you can return to, separate from a regular Gemini conversation.
What you should see: A list of checklist items with a pass, fail, or "cannot evaluate" note next to each, organized by category rather than as a single wall of text.
